It was not to be |
It was bitter pills that St Colombe´s grass track had reserved for Appe in Long Track Challenge event.
Appe scored 9p and ended up to 11th place ending his qualifying story for GP -12.
- It was actually not so bad after all. Of course Im disappointed for loosing qualifying place. Anyhow, race started well, managed to beat Lespinasse in my first heat. But then lack of grass surface experience started to show.
Bikes were set-up right, no problems in there, but grass specialists were just too heavy opponents today.
So, it was not the machinery, it was the rider who lost today.
- In addition to grass surface, track was bumpy and other end was in shadow and other one in sun, drying during the race creating hard and slick spots.

What a day for Appe racing team! |
Last Saturday was day to remember for Appe Racing Team. While team star was waiting last GP to start in Morizes, his mechanic Mikko Rahko won Long Track Finnish Championships in Pori.
When Appe´s turn came he continued the success row and rode his best placing in GP series this far.
- Great feeling says Mikko. Event went well even I fell once while battling with Rene Lehtinen in my last qualifying heat. Track was slippery and back wheel just slipped away. In final I got very good start and led the heat all the way home. It went really tight as Rene was chasing hard and was really really close to me at the end. Bike was perfect today and I knew exactly what kind of set-up is required for this track. Naturally engine was tuned by Mr Wizard Himself, Veijo Tuoriniemi.
After engines quieted down in Pori, they were started up in Morizes for last remaining GP.
Appe scored 4, 3, 1 and 2 and summed up 10, the best catch of the year. In semifinal he was left last but that was not making him sad, it was best GP anyway and good way to end year´s GP campaign.
- Good stuff, again, despite yet again we got technical gremlins on board. I was leading my first qualifier when gear box broke down but managed to limp second. In semifinal I was fourth but dropped to last place. Bit of a problems was caused break down of my 1st bike, 2nd was not that sharp from the gate then.
I will get new gear box to Challenge and I truly hope that will solve those problems for good, ends Appe his race report.
Day was full of joy for Finns´s also because Joonas secured his second major title and was crowned to World Champion at late night in Morizes.
